Every Woman:

Mother of the Creative Force

October 9, 2010

12:30 - 4 p.m. at

742 N. LaSalle Street

Mother is a word that evokes a powerful reaction in all of us. It stirs memories of our own mother and often creates conflicting feelings and division among women in our society. If we are truly going to love ourselves, then we must make peace with the biological fact that all women are wired at birth to procreate/be a life-supporting vessel. In this session we will address the presence and depth of “mother love” in each of us, and explore ways to examine, understand and respect it, within ourselves and in our own maternal connections.
While not every woman literally gives birth, all women can nurture, create and support life. When we expand this concept of dedication and creative ability, we see that we are all Mothers to something or someone in our life. Love is the most powerful force in the universe, and “Mother love” is unstoppable. Yet selflessness can turn into self-destruction for the one who mothers without boundaries and balance, and resentment for a recipient overwhelmed by the connection.
By seeing every woman as a mother, and remembering that every mother is a person, we can support the challenges our sisters face in allowing the free expression of this extraordinary ability, and we can begin to see motherhood as what it is: “the origin or source of something.”
Join us as we honor and accept the gift of femininity we all share, and the diversity of gifts we each have as mothers in our own sacred way.

Susan A. Lipshutz, L.C.S.W., has more than 25 years of experience teaching and practicing integrative psychotherapy. She brings a foundation in Western medicine and indigenous spiritual practices to her work. Previously, she has served as the Director of Behavioral Sciences for the Family Practice Residency Training Programs with the Illinois Masonic Medical Center and West Suburban Hospital. Today, as a student of crosscultural spiritual practices including Andean wisdomkeepers
and Mapuche ceremonialists, Susan integrates the ancient divine feminine wisdom of our grandmothers with her own powerful modern teachings, crafting an easy-to-understand style of empowerment and self-love attuned to the complexities of today’s modern woman. Because the sacred feminine archetype is always growing and evolving, Susan is dedicated to weaving this understanding into ongoing training, studies and sacred journeys around the globe, as well as in her individual practice in Chicago. deepest level, and encourages others to offer their personal change in service of the greater collective. Her passionate work in support of universal divine feminine wisdom teachings, embodying heartfelt love and shared purpose, offers both women and men the realization of an ancient and timeless dream – a dream that we have the privilege and responsibility not only to witness, but also to co-create.
