the Journey" >>
The Setting
This one-week trip will be held at the Maya Tulum Resort on Mexico's Mayan
Riviera just 90 miles south of Cancun. Ranked #10 best resort in the world
by Travel and Leisure magazine, this beach retreat, located on the azure
blue waters of the Caribbean, features a pristine private beach, eco-conscious
accommodations, delicious meals, a wide array of massage and spa treatments,
and a warm and friendly staff.
Rooms
All accommodations are in beautifully appointed palapas, or Mayan huts,
made from local materials and decorated with indigenous pieces. With no
television, radios or telephones in the rooms, you can enjoy the serenity
of the natural surroundings without interruption from the outside world.
Rooms are now limited. If you are interested in joining the trip please
phone trip coordinator, Robin Varnado, at 708-250-0047.
Weather
The area features an ideal climate with year-round sunshine and warm temperatures.
Activities
Grounded in the beauty of the land and the Mayan energies, and aligned
with astrological healing points, the retreat programming includes indigenous
spiritual practices, water and fire ceremonies, drumming, dancing, creative
self-expression, yoga, excursions to ruins and sacred sites, and other
potentially transformational work. In addition, there will be plenty of
down time so you can schedule spa appointments, shop in town, walk on
the beach or visit with your sisters. We will also have one full day scheduled
for an off-site excursion.

Food
The resort's food is genuinely delicious—fresh, healthfully prepared and
artfully served. The meals are, for the most part, vegetarian, with the
addition of some local fish approximately every other day. Note that all
food is washed in purified water, and purified water is used in ice cubes.
There also are purified water dispensers in each room for drinking and
teethbrushing.
Airlines
Airfare is not included in the trip. We suggest that you book your flights
as soon as possible. We also strongly suggest that you fly direct. Chicago
to Cancun is an easy three-hour flight and, based on past experience,
the small price differential between non-stop and multiple stop-flights
does not make up for the added time and inconvenience. Also note that
we can only offer free airport pickups if you arrive between designated
windows of time. If you arrive outside these windows, you will be responsible
for your own transport to the resort—estimated at approximately $90 by
taxi.
Additional Expenses
Your trip fee covers seven nights and eight days at Maya Tulum, three
meals a day, a daily yoga and movement class, and the workshop itself,
including all ceremonies and activities associated with it. Also included
is transport between the resort and Cancun International Airport — provided
your flights are scheduled within a particular window of time (see below).
NOT included in your trip fee:
- Airfare
- Massages and treatments available at the resort's spa (credit cards
accepted)
- Tips for resort staff
- Optional excursions
Special Considerations
- Alcohol: Even though alcoholic beverages are available
at the resort, workshop participants must agree not to consume alcohol
for the duration of the workshop.
- Dietary Requirements: Maya Tulum’s buffet meals are
delicious, nutritious and offer a wide variety of choices, including
many options for vegetarians. However, if you have very specific dietary
requirements, please understand that there is no opportunity to order
special meals.
- Shared Space: Although the resort is secluded—bordered
by the ocean on one side and the jungle on the other—we will be sharing
it with another group. This means that we will not have complete environmental
control over things like noise levels, perfume use, and potential allergens
like bug spray.
- Adding on Extra Days: If you should wish to arrive
early or stay for a few extra days, contact the resort directly to arrange:.
at their U.S. number 888.515.4580.

“Since I've returned home, I have had comments from two separate people that I look better. Also I've been told by another person that my energy feels 'lighter'."
