Bio and Mission Statement

Susan Lipshutz, LCSW

With her unique blend of Western medicine and indigenous traditions, spiritual awareness and contemporary sensibility, Susan Lipshutz, LCSW, has emerged as a guide and a beacon for these transformative times.

Deeply devoted to building strong communities that reawaken and integrate the divine feminine into daily life, Susan makes her celebration of the feminine accessible — to both women and men alike — through groups, workshops, special events and women’s retreats. Tapping into ritual, movement, ceremony, prayer, earth-honoring traditions, creative self expression, talking circles, journeying, shamanic practices and more, she helps people connect ancient wisdom teachings from many cultures as well as to heal and balance their modern lives. She believes that remembering and reconnecting with our "lost" indigenous roots is important because that void is what is fostering a sense loss within ourselves.

In 1999, Susan founded Everyday Medicine Woman™. The name reinforces the core ideas of how basic or “everyday” our attention to mind/body/spirit can be and how there is innate healing "medicine" within each of us, as well as evokes respect for what feminine nature has to offer.

"Indigenous teachings offer us, in subtle and profound ways, opportunities to weave our spiritual practice into every aspect of our lives. Being human engages us with a struggle to keep our decisions, actions, thoughts, and relationships in harmony with our intent to live life in this sacred manner. As long as we keep our hearts open and take our commitments — but not ourselves! — seriously, the journey promises to be magical, instructive, and humbling."

A Cross-Cultural Approach

Following her passion for exploring and integrating the healing practices of universal wisdom teachings, Susan completed two shamanic apprenticeships in the Peruvian Andean tradition. She also studied with medicine women and ceremonial leaders from the Mapuche, a matrilineal Chilean tribe. In addition, she uses Akashic Record spiritual energy practices (akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning "sky" or "space") in consulting sessions for individuals and groups to tap into and embody soul essence memory. Recently, Susan has been working with Mayan Yucatan shamans, astrologers and global ceremonialists to better understand this highly-charged era and offer guidance as we move into this time of great change.

Clinical Practice, Training

In addition to her cross-cultural education, Susan has maintained an integrative psychotherapy practice in Chicago for more than 30 years. She is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with a master's degree from Loyola University. Previously, she served as the Director of Behavioral Sciences for the Family Practice Center, affiliated with Illinois Masonic Medical Center and West Suburban Hospital. Additionally, training in creative visualization, mindfulness meditation, clinical hypnotherapy and other mind/body practices has enriched her ability to facilitate meaningful changes for her clients. In 2010, Susan received the Reader's Choice Award for Best Mental Health Practitioner from Chicago's Mindful Metropolis magazine.

Today, Susan is a sought-after lecturer on women’s health issues, holistic well-being and other topics. She leads a wide-range of workshops, retreats, guided meditation classes and special events, such as trance dance rituals and equinox/solstice festivals. She is also on staff at the Raby Institute for Integrative Medicine, where she leads lunchtime meditation workshops. Her Thirteen Moons® series which explores spirit through the life cycle of a woman, is now in its 12th year, and her annual Goddess Gathering retreat—which over the years has been held in Michigan, Colorado and Tulum, Mexico—is entering its 13th year. She also has been a featured expert in Women’s Day magazine and is co-founder of Rainbow Journey, LLC.

Susan also has a private practice for integrative psychotherapy and can be reached at 312-787-7077.
