Honoring Our Mothers

For the past several months, this newsletter has been unintentionally twinned with the full moon phase. Yet this month, mystery held my ability to share until the we moved into the Balsamic dark moon just shy of the new moon on May 20th. I went out of town prior to the full moon on May 5th and planned to write about what I suspected would be a transformational journey. Yet once I returned home, I found that the information needed to sit within a bit longer. I was wondering if I should focus on the upcoming Venus transit but then the "Dark Mother" came to me in a meditation leading up to our beautiful Mother's Day ceremony. She reminded me of the illuminating power that Clarissa Pinkola Estes evokes in her book, Untie the Strong Woman:

"May we line up behind the Black Madonna's clear line of sight, and her great strength, to see as closely as mere humanlings can, to see as she sees with black light fully illuminating anything that radiates, and to withstand what we see. May we un-hood our heads and look into, under, behind, beyond all words and worlds and see the winged soul lighting up the oiled map of past, present and future that once seemed so hidden. May all be given the ways of seeing that most benefit the growth of rather then the restriction of their souls."

I was to invite us to liberate our mothers' stories once again. This type of focus allows the usually delicate and civil Venus to deliver a more raw and blunt message as her retrograde journey takes her message past the Sun for all to witness and prepare for a new era of humanity. Many are looking for guides and ancestors to lead us though these unchartered waters, yet wisdom keepers ask us to turn to the power of the divine feminine, whose shoulders we are standing upon for the strength and understanding we seek. It is the maternal lineage strains that are being identified as a significant source of essential soul roots by spiritual teachings and quantum neuroscience theories. But that takes us back to the person we are often running from: our mothers.

Astrological Aspects

As we are nearing the mid-point of 2012, the sky is lighting up with opportunities supporting understanding, breaking old patterns and inspiring the mind with the authentic passion of the heart, wisdom of the spirit and voice of the collective planetary soul.

The pace is quickening with Gemini, the master of razor-sharp comprehension, who is piloting major planetary shifts over the next six weeks. The big news has to do with the two upcoming eclipses that will enhance abilities to understand and share our thoughts and connect them to the greater knowledge that is available during these transformational times. Gemini, ruled by Mercury, emphasizes greater learning and enhanced communication.

The first solar eclipse on May 20 will be visible in the northern hemisphere with the intuitive Moon intercepting the powerful rays of the Sun. This causes the moon to hold celestial court for a couple of weeks, allowing our deeper wisdom to rise to the surface of the self. This process will be supported by a retrograde Venus that is digging deep for us to become reconnected to our core values, priorities and true heart song. She is more concerned with us reconsidering choices and commitments then her usual attention to harmony and ease. So, it will be more important to temper all impulsive actions and interactions with a few deep breaths and some extra introspection before pressing the send button. June 4th and 5th bring an exquisite shift from the personal to the planetary attunement that highlights the dire beauty of this golden era.

The full moon in Sagittarius on June 4th harmonizes raw shifts in perception into more expansive truths that weave our individual priorities and goals into a constellation of the bigger picture we can aspire to achieve. Then, sweet Venus completes the other side of her first transit in 2004 by having the audacity to journey in front of the Sun to light up the sky with the message to love and preserve all life. Just to make certain that we don't miss these messages, there is another new moon in Gemini on June 19th, giving us the final exam to see what we have learned.

Lighting of the Lights

You are invited to join Everyday Medicine Woman on June 5, 2012, for a once-in-a-lifetime gathering along the shores of Lake Michigan. Together we will experience an evening of mystical wonder as our sister planet Venus transits the sun in a rare and historic astrological event that happens only once every 121 years. Through ceremony, prayer and intention, we will kindle a light for Venus and evoke love, beauty & friendships. We will call upon the spiritual power of the sun to bless & heal our precious earth & her sacred waters.

As we light our candles here in Chicago, for the first time like-minded communities and varied cultures across the world will be doing the same. Everyday Medicine Woman is participating as one of the wisdom holders in the WaterSongline International Lighting of the Lights ceremonies. Wisdom keepers from around the world, including the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers will be offering prayers simultaneously in the spirit of unity during this time of the Venus transit.

The evening celebration will include:

  • Procession of drums
  • Creating a prayer together
  • Lighting the sacred fire
  • Offering to the waters
  • Celebratory fire spinning offered by Pyrotechniq and Chicago Fire Tribe

We will gather at Montrose Harbor at 7PM on June 5th (see sun icon on map below for location). There is no charge for the event. All are encouraged to bring a flower and wear white in honor of Venus.

In the event of rain, the ceremony will be canceled but those wishing to gather in prayer may join us at the location. Please visit our Facebook page , website or call the office voicemail at 5:00 pm on the day of the event if the weather is wet: 312.787.7077.

Strengthening the Essential Self

The 13th Annual Everyday Medicine Woman Goddess Gathering With Susan A. Lipshutz, LCSW

September 27 to 30, 2012

Those walking a spiritual path understand that 2012 marks both an end and a beginning. Over the past several years, every facet of our lives has been shattered and stripped down to its core. We are now being asked to step through a portal into a new era, and to live consciously, compassionately and from the heart. This year's goddess gathering both honors our surrender to this wisdom and offers an opportunity to strengthen our essential self so we can walk in this new world with clarity and purpose.

Under a full huntress moon, we will pitch our tribal tent on rich American soil to connect with the medicine wheel of our roots. Held in the safety of like-hearted sisters who have done spiritual work together for more than a decade, we will tap
into divine sacred feminine teachings, earth-honoring traditions, ancient ceremonies, creative self-expression and our own hard-won wisdom. Together, we will celebrate this rite of passage, align our hearts with passionate purpose and return to our lives ready to serve.

What can you expect?

Over the course of four days, we will be drumming, dancing, sharing, creating, doing yoga, and participating in ceremonies, rituals and journeys. Expect sisterhood, community and a joyful celebration of the divine feminine. Expect a deep exploration of self. But mostly, let go of expectations. You might just amaze

Who should come?
Whether you have been to every goddess gathering or are new to the work, we invite women of any age who want to stand strongly in the center of their lives to join us. For the "seasoned" women, this gathering allows us to tap into the wisdom of our shared sisterhood and evolution, and for newcomers it is an exciting opportunity to step into a sacred hoop of mindful, joyful and open-hearted women. You need only a willing spirit, an open mind and a thirst for deep connection.

Early Bird Special:  Pay in full by June 1 and receive $50 off the price of your trip.

Blessings, Peace and love,
