The Tree of Life:
Honoring the Influence of Women in Community
Celebration in Chicago on the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day
MARCH 8, 2011: Can you imagine a day without women in the world? On March 8, 2011— the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day — three Chicago women will be honored for their inspiring and profound work to enhance their communities in the areas of education, health and the arts. "The Tree of Life" aims to celebrate the power and wonder of the feminine spirit and is co-hosted by Susan Lipshutz of Everyday Medicine Woman, Tamara Wills of Allyu Spa and Dorothée Royal-Hedinger of NobleTree Media.
"Our intention for this year's celebration is to think globally and act locally," Susan Lipshutz explains, "Throughout the world if you want to get something meaningful done you must get the women or mothers on board. Women who stay in their communities are like trees, offering sustenance, security, beauty and strengthen with age.”'
Beginning at 6:30 pm, the event will start with a community gathering featuring an assortment of local and organic snacks. At 7:00 pm, the honorees will be introduced and will have a chance to share their unique stories of courage, vision and commitment with the group. Then guests will be invited to participate in a short ceremony led by Susan Lipshutz, LCSW, to honor the women who have made a difference in their own lives.
The evening's honorees are:
- Myrna Fragoso, President & Founder, Frida Kahlo Community Organization
- Lisa Kenner, Principal, Legacy Charter School
- LaDonna Redmond, Food Justice Activist
Join us for an evening of celebration, good food and collective spirit. $10 suggested donation, everyone is welcome!

Thirteen Moons Launches 7th Year with
Free January Intro Workshop
DECEMBER 2010: Thirteen Moons is a monthly seminar series honoring the spiritual life cycle of a woman. The series is an invitation to change a woman's personal, cultural and spiritual reference points to rebalance our natural rhythms and get in touch with our most authentic selves. Each session includes a guided meditation and covers topics like self-esteem, creating healthy relationships and uncovering your life's purpose. 2011 marks the seventh year of the Thirteen Moons community, which has brought together three generations of Chicago women from all walks of life into a circle of ceremony and healing.
Thirteen Moons is led by Susan Lipshutz, LCSW, who practices psychotherapy in Chicago blending clinical approaches with universal divine feminine wisdom teachings for individual and collective transformation.
The free intro workshop on January 29, 2011, serves as an overview of the series and an introduction to the feminine life cycle.

Words from Participants
"Thirteen Moons is about nurturing beauty from the inside out. Each session helps you connect in a very personal way with the goddess you were born to be. More than empowering, Thirteen Moons is a safe haven where women can find peace within themselves and see love reflected in the women around them."
- Dorothée Royal-Hedinger
"Words cannot fully describe how this work changed my life and how it changed my path. I will always hold Susan and all the women I met in a special place in my heart."
- Audre Slenys
"I've learned to surrender, to allow the light within me, light that has always been there, to shine. Coming home, at last. Now I feel what it means to truly walk in beauty."
